2010 Florida Marlins
The 18th season for the Florida Marlins looks promising for the club that went 87-75 in 2009, the third best record in franchise history, and Manager Fredi Gonzalez looks to get his team into the MLB playoffs for the first time since their 2003 World Series appearance. In January of 2010, the franchise announced that their road jerseys will no longer bear the name Florida. The “F” patch will no longer be on the sleeve of their jerseys. These moves are in preparation of the name / stadium change to take effect in 2012. The franchise will then be known as the Miami Marlins and will play in their new $550 million (still being built) stadium named Miami Ballpark (aka-Marlins Ballpark).
In the offseason, the Marlins have resigned pitcher Josh Johnson, Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla and with team chemistry a major key to the Marlins continued success in 2010, veterans like Wes Helms appreciates the franchises willingness to keep the core of the team together. "I've always been a big believer that chemistry is everything," Helms said recently. "To me, keeping all these guys together helps a lot. Most of them have got four years under their belt in the big leagues. It's more experience. The good seasons we've had, especially last year, we still had a lot of youth. With more experience, I don't see any reason why we can't do better. I think it was a plus, because we know everybody in the clubhouse."
